Cleetus McFarland Faces Challenges in NASCAR O'Reilly Race at Nashville

After a challenging debut at Rockingham, Cleetus McFarland aimed to turn things around at Nashville Superspeedway in his second NASCAR O'Reilly race. Fresh off an impressive second-place finish at Talladega in the ARCA series, the popular YouTuber found himself starting from the back due to a rainout during qualifying. Driving the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, he began the race in 38th position.

Despite the rocky start, McFarland made progress early on, reaching as high as 29th place during the first stage. His teammate, Jesse Love, was leading the race and offered assistance by pushing McFarland past another competitor. However, as the stage neared its conclusion, McFarland lost control of his car while battling Logan Bearden for the position of first car one lap down. This resulted in a spin that not only cost him the opportunity to get back on the lead lap but also sent him back to 36th, with minor damage to his car's splitter.

As the race continued, McFarland struggled with handling issues and fell a second lap down, finishing Stage 2 in 35th place. The team worked to repair the damaged splitter, but McFarland expressed his frustration over the radio, stating, “All it takes is one effing spin.”

Things took a turn for the worse during his first green-flag pit stop. Although he executed the pit entry successfully, he accidentally dragged the jack out of the pit box, leading to a penalty. While attempting to serve this penalty, McFarland spun again at the pit road entrance, resulting in another penalty for a commitment line violation. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line in 35th place, six laps down.

Post-race, McFarland reflected on his performance with his team, acknowledging his mistakes and expressing gratitude for their support. “I made a lot more mistakes than I wanted to,” he admitted. Despite the setbacks, he remains determined, telling viewers, “I ain't gonna give up, I'm gonna figure this out.” Looking ahead, McFarland will return to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on June 6 at Michigan International Speedway, where he will tackle his largest non-superspeedway oval to date.
