Cowboys Expected to Pursue All-Pro Linebacker Bobby Wagner

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly eyeing a free-agent signing to bolster their defense ahead of the 2026-27 season. After a disappointing performance on that side of the ball last year, the team is looking to enhance their lineup, particularly in the linebacker position. While they have already secured players like Rashan Gary and Dee Winters, experts believe an additional standout could make a significant impact.

According to CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell, the Cowboys may target Bobby Wagner, the 35-year-old All-Pro linebacker formerly with the Washington Commanders. “(Bobby) Wagner's age has to be the primary reason behind his lack of a contract,” Podell noted earlier this week. Wagner had an impressive season, recording 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions. His remarkable consistency is underscored by 14 consecutive seasons with over 100 tackles, matching the record set by London Fletcher.

The Cowboys are currently in search of a reliable middle linebacker, especially with the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft in mind. Even if Dee Winters takes the starting role next season, having a seasoned veteran like Wagner to guide younger players would be beneficial for the team.

Wagner’s credentials speak volumes. With a career total of 2,000 tackles, 39.5 sacks, and 15 interceptions over 14 seasons, he is widely regarded as one of the finest linebackers in NFL history. As the offseason progresses, the Cowboys may be at the forefront of potential suitors for this accomplished player.
