Cowboys Sign Former Raiders Edge Rusher Charles Snowden Following Minicamp

The Dallas Cowboys have recently made a series of roster changes as their mandatory minicamp wraps up. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer decided to cancel the final day of activities on Thursday, allowing players to enjoy an extended break over the Juneteenth holiday weekend. Just before this break, the team was actively adjusting their roster, making strategic moves to fill their last open spot.

Currently, the Cowboys have maintained their offseason roster at the maximum limit of 90 players. However, with edge rusher Adedayo Odeleye joining the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, the team is permitted to expand to 91 players during the offseason. Recent adjustments include the addition of UFL players Chris Glaser (OL), Ameer Speed (DB), and Denzel Mims (WR), along with the release of WR Romello Brinson and DB Corey Ballentine. Veteran OL Matt Hennessy has also been placed on injured reserve, opening further opportunities for the team.

In a notable move, the Cowboys have signed street free agent Charles Snowden, a former defensive end for the Las Vegas Raiders. Over the past two seasons, Snowden appeared in 31 games for the Raiders, starting 18 of them and recording 4.5 sacks along with 8 tackles for loss. The signing is seen as a potential boost for the Cowboys’ defensive lineup, especially under the guidance of defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Snowden, who went undrafted out of Virginia in 2021, began his career with the Chicago Bears before moving to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and eventually the Raiders. His time with the Raiders was marked by a challenging incident in late 2024 when he faced DUI charges after being found unresponsive in his vehicle. His blood-alcohol level was reported to be more than twice the legal limit at that time. After pleading no contest to reduced charges of reckless driving, Snowden bounced back to have a productive season.

As he joins the Cowboys, Snowden will compete for a place on the roster among a mix of seasoned players and younger talent, including Rashan Gary and James Houston, as well as emerging players like Donovan Ezeiruaku and Malachi Lawrence. This new chapter in his career presents an opportunity for Snowden to showcase his skills and contribute to Dallas's defensive efforts.
