Multiple Injury Setbacks for CSK before IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings are battling with multiple injuries even before a ball has been played at the Chepauk in IPL 2026.

MS Dhoni is expected to miss early matches of the Indian Premier League after Chennai Super Kings confirmed he is recovering from a calf strain.

The franchise released a statement on the morning of the season opener, revealing that the veteran wicketkeeper-batter is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Dhoni featured in all 14 matches last season, often batting late in the innings and scoring 196 runs from 13 outings at a strike rate of 135.17, with a highest score of 30 not out.

Australian pacer Nathan Ellis already ruled out of the entire tournament due to a hamstring injury. He has been replaced by Spencer Johnson.

India U19 star Ayush Mhatre was the latest to find himself on the injured list as he pulled his hamstring while attempting to complete a second run in the match against SRH.

What are the potential return dates for MS Dhoni & Ayush Mhatre?

According to the latest report from The Times of India, Dhoni is likely to miss the first six matches of CSK in the IPL 2026 season. This means that Dhoni could only return to action on April 23 for CSK, when they take on rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, other reports suggest Dhoni has traveled with the CSK team to Hyderabad but is unlikely to play the double-header against SRH. He is progressing well and could make his return against the Gujarat Titans in Chennai on 26 April.

Meanwhile, Brevis, who missed the first three matches due to a side strain, but returned to action, which also coincided with CSK's back-to-back wins.

Mhatre, who suffered a hamstring injury on April 18, 2026, has been ruled out of action for the remainder of the season, the franchise confirmed on April 21.
