Darnell Washington Secures Four-Year Contract Extension with Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement with tight end Darnell Washington for a four-year contract extension. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the deal is valued at $42 million, featuring $21 million guaranteed.
Washington, who was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown consistent development during his time with the team. Initially, in his rookie season, he primarily contributed as a blocker, finishing with just seven receptions for 61 yards. His performance improved in 2024, where he recorded 19 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown, followed by an impressive 31 receptions for 364 yards and another touchdown in 2025.
Despite competing for playing time with fellow tight end Pat Freiermuth, Washington has been a significant part of the Steelers’ offense, logging over 500 snaps in each of his first three seasons. This extension reflects the team's confidence in his growing abilities and future potential.
