Denver Broncos Secure $45.8 Million Deal for Future Stadium Development

The Denver Broncos are making significant strides in their quest to build a new stadium, with a substantial agreement announced on Friday. The team has been contemplating this project for some time, and recent developments indicate they are closer to realizing their vision.

Reports confirm that the Broncos have struck a $45.8 million deal with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) concerning the desirable Burnham Yard property. This site, which last changed hands in 2021, will now be under the Broncos' control, facilitating the potential construction of a new stadium in Denver, Colorado.

“We are pleased to finalize a formal agreement with CDOT to purchase the Burnham Yard site with a closing expected this fall,” stated Patrick Smyth, the Broncos’ chief communications officer. “As this remains the preferred site, we remain optimistic that our collaboration with the city, state and community will keep everything on track for 2031.”

The Burnham Yard spans 58.5 acres and is located just under a mile from the Broncos' current venue, Empower Field at Mile High. Although the timeline for the stadium's construction is still unspecified, team ownership aims to have it ready for the 2031 NFL season.

This purchase agreement includes crucial provisions, such as granting a Broncos-affiliated limited liability company the right of first refusal for the former railyard property and preventing CDOT from selling it to any other entity. While CDOT had initially acquired the land for a potential transportation initiative that never came to fruition, the Broncos are now poised to transform it into a sports venue.

With the NFL seeing a surge in new stadiums over the last decade, the Broncos' project joins five others currently in planning or construction, alongside efforts from teams like the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears.
