DeWitt's Justin Steinman Holds Second Place After Day One of MHSAA Golf Finals

In a thrilling start to the MHSAA Division 2 golf finals, DeWitt’s Justin Steinman finds himself in a strong position as he heads into the final day of competition. The senior golfer delivered an impressive performance with a score of 69, securing second place individually after the first round at The Meadows, located at Grand Valley State University.

Steinman trails the leader, Tristan Pohl from Freeland, by two strokes. His efforts have also contributed to DeWitt’s team score of 314, placing them in sixth overall. Meanwhile, Grand Rapids Christian leads the pack with a round of 300.

DeWitt’s Myles Smith also made a noteworthy impact, finishing the first round in a tie for 10th place with a score of 74. In contrast, St. Johns is positioned 15th with a team score of 330; Elijah Schultz and Aidan Wirth both recorded rounds of 81 to lead their team.

In the Division 4 finals at Forest Akers West, Lansing Christian’s Ben Rottman is tied for sixth with a score of 80, trailing leader Giovanni Paluch from Alcona by six strokes. The team from Lansing Christian currently sits in ninth place with a total score of 350, significantly behind Muskegon Western Michigan Christian, who leads by 19 strokes.

Over at Bedford Valley for Division 3, Lansing Catholic is tied for eighth with a team score of 334, 20 strokes off the pace set by Grand Rapids West Catholic. Carter Tribell recorded an opening round of 81, placing him in a tie for 22nd, while Bath’s Max McCallister leads local competitors in 17th place with a score of 80 as his team sits at 15th with a total of 345.

In Division 1 at Ferris State, Grand Ledge senior Christian Helzer finished the first round in 25th place with a score of 75.
