Dodgers Helped Lakers’ Austin Reaves Rehab During Playoffs
Los Angeles’ two biggest franchises continue to grow closer together.
The Lakers and Dodgers, both owned by Mark Walter, have seen executives pull double duty or fully shift from one organization to the other.
Now, with the Lakers set to set to undertake a “full rebuild and retool” after being swept in the second round of the playoffs, they’ll be leaning on the Dodgers more, as reported by Yaron Weitzman of Yahoo! Sports.
But as it turns out, the Dodgers already played a big role in the Lakers’ playoffs this season.
Dodgers helped get Laker healthy for playoffs
The injury-plagued Lakers were working to get guard Austin Reaves back to compete against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
Reaves had strained his oblique, an injury that surely sounds familiar to Dodgers fans.
It’s the same injury that sidelined star shortstop Mookie Betts for weeks.
So who else would the Lakers turn to when it comes to rehabilitating Reaves?
And that cooperation wasn’t a one-off, according to Lakers president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka.
“We’re working in collaboration with some of the Dodgers folks to bring in a biomechanics lab,” Pelinka said.
Considering that the Lakers’ magical March promised postseason success before injuries to Reaves and superstar Luka Doncic, investing in keeping players healthy should be paramount for the Lakers.
And if LeBron James were to return for his record 24th season with the Lakers, keeping him healthy would raise the stakes even further.
Are you excited about the way the Lakers and Dodgers are working together?
