Dodgers star prospect injured by team ´bat dog´ in freak accident

Baseballhas delivered plenty of strange injuries over the years. Players have hurt themselves celebrating home runs, tripping over equipment, or even sneezing. But the Los Angeles Dodgers organization may have witnessed one of the more unusual incidents in recent memory after one of its top prospects exited a game following a collision involving a team bat dog. The bizarre moment unfolded Monday night during a Tulsa Drillers game and quickly became a talking point across baseball.

A Strange Scene Unfolds in Tulsa

The incident occurred during the second inning of Tulsa’s matchup against Northwest Arkansas at ONEOK Field in Oklahoma.

Dodgers prospect Kendall George, the Drillers’ starting center fielder, had just crossed home plate after scoring on a line drive to right field. As George was making his way back toward the dugout, the team’s bat-retrieving dog suddenly sprinted toward the area around home plate.

What appeared to be a harmless moment quickly turned into an unfortunate collision.

George was caught up in the unexpected encounter and suffered an injury serious enough that he could not remain in the game. The 21-year-old was visibly frustrated as he left the field, clearly understanding the unusual circumstances surrounding the play.

Injury Status Remains Unclear

At this point, the full extent of George’s injury remains unknown.

The uncertainty is significant because George has been one of the most productive players for Tulsa this season. Through 43 games, he has been outstanding at the plate, hitting .333 while adding 16 RBIs and scoring 52 runs.

His speed has also been a major weapon. George has stolen 26 bases in 29 attempts, continuing to showcase one of the skill sets that made him such an intriguing prospect.

Dodgers Hoping for Positive News

George entered professional baseball with high expectations after being selected in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft and currently ranks as the No. 13 prospect in the Dodgers system.

For now, the organization will be waiting for updates and hoping that a bizarre accident involving a bat dog does not lead to a lengthy absence for one of its rising young talents.
