Dolphins' Jeff Hafley Shares Insights Following First Mandatory Minicamp
The Miami Dolphins kicked off their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, just a week away from concluding their offseason program with the final series of organized team activities (OTAs). Following the first day of camp, head coach Jeff Hafley addressed the media, offering updates on quarterback Malik Willis, Quinn Ewers, and edge rusher Chop Robinson, among other topics.
Regarding Malik Willis, Hafley acknowledged that building rapport with the receivers will be a gradual process. “It’s going to be a work in progress,” he noted, emphasizing the need for extensive practice to develop a cohesive rhythm. With Malik Washington being the only returning wideout from last year, Willis will have to adjust to a mix of new faces, including veterans Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert, alongside rookies Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman. Additionally, the Dolphins welcomed former first-round pick Jalen Reagor to the roster, which could enhance competition within the receiving corps.
On the topic of defensive strategy, Hafley discussed the crucial role of the “green dot” player on defense, who is responsible for relaying coaching instructions during games. He expressed his desire for all safeties and linebackers to prepare for this responsibility during minicamp, including rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who is anticipated to have a significant impact in the upcoming season.
Finally, Hafley set high expectations for edge rusher Chop Robinson, who finished the previous season with only four sacks. “I’m looking for a lot more from Chop… he needs to become a complete football player going into year three,” Hafley remarked, indicating his hope for Robinson to elevate his performance in 2026.
The mandatory minicamp will conclude on June 4, with OTAs scheduled to resume on June 8, June 9, and June 11.
