Dr. Neal ElAttrache: The Surgeon Behind Joe Burrow's Knee Recovery
According to a report by Michael S. Schmidt in the New York Times, Major League Baseball (MLB) officials are set to interview Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This inquiry comes after revelations that ElAttrache had previously supported Conor McGregor's use of performance-enhancing substances during his rehabilitation from injury.
In addition to his role with the Dodgers, ElAttrache is also the head physician for the Los Angeles Rams. The NFL has not yet responded to inquiries regarding ElAttrache's statements.
Notably, Dr. ElAttrache performed knee surgery on Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. In December 2020, he operated on Burrow’s left knee following a severe injury sustained during his rookie season.
In a text to ESPN’s Adam Schefter in May 2021, ElAttrache expressed optimism about Burrow’s recovery, stating, “(Burrow is) on track for full go for start of the season. He's doing all the work. He's worked his tail off and been an amazingly mature participant in his recovery. He's focused and great to work with.”
Burrow’s injury occurred in November 2020 when he was tackled by Washington’s Jonathan Allen and Montez Sweat. Earlier this year, Allen signed a two-year contract with the Bengals, continuing his career in the NFL.
