Dustin Johnson states how confident he is that LIV Golf will still be around after 2026
LIV Golf continued in Virginia this week despite ongoing concerns about the funding of the tour.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) will end its funding of LIV Golf after the 2026 season, placing its future in major doubt.
But business continued at LIV Golf Virginia, where Lucas Herbert claimed his first LIV Golf individual trophy with a wire-to-wire win.
The Ripper GC player defeated Sergio Garcia by four shots at Trump National Washington, where two-time major champion and former world number one Dustin Johnson was also involved.
He finished in a tie for 18th, but more significantly was asked about his faith that there is a path forward beyond 2026 for LIV Golf.
Dustin Johnson confident in LIV Golf future beyond 2026
Johnson told the media at LIV Golf Virginia: “I mean, LIV obviously, I think we’re in a pretty good spot.
“Just look at our events, look at the players we got.
“So I’m confident in the people running the show that we will continue on.
“Yeah, I think all the guys, we really love being out here.
“It’s very enjoyable.
“We love competing against each other.
“We’re only getting better.
“Yeah, I’m very confident in our leadership.”
Focus will soon turn to LIV Golf Korea, with the next event in the schedule taking place at Asiad Country Club at the end of the month.
Before that, however, Johnson will play at the PGA Championship after being given a special invitation for the major championship at Aronimink Golf Club this week.
Dustin Johnson praises Antony Kim after best-ever LIV Golf round
Also taking on LIV Golf Virginia was Anthony Kim, who finished in a tie for sixth after carding a final round 10-under.
When asked what it was like to see Kim shoot his best round on LIV, Johnson said: “I played with him, so obviously he played really well.
“Like you said, he holed some putts.
“Even the couple times he got out of position, he hit pretty good pitches and holed the putt.
“That’s how you shoot really good scores, is you make those six, seven-footers for par that kind of keep your momentum.
“Yeah, he hit a lot of nice shots too, shooting 10-under.
“But holed some really nice putts for par, which I think sometimes they’re bigger than the birdie putts.
“It was just a really solid round.
“It was fun to watch.”
Kim also played a key role as 4Aces, captained by Johnson, won the first playoff hole against Fireballs GC.
He and Thomas Detry each made par on the 18th, with their opponents Josele Ballester and David Puig making par and bogey respectively.
Kim’s 24 putts were the fewest of the round, while he and Johnson’s tally of 107 represented the fewest of the tournament.
