Eddie Pepperell makes fourth DP World Tour ace, delivers most low-key reaction you will ever see
It’s an age-old adage “act like you’ve been there before.” Essentially, it means be a good winner. Tip your cap, shake hands and move on to the next one, even if you're jumping around like a maniac inside.
Because hole-in-ones are so rare, though, golfers are usually afforded more wiggle room. We regularly see groups of grown, screaming men sprinting toward the green with their arms outstretched in wing formation and we don’t bat an eye. In most cases, they haven’t been there before and never will again, so we allow it. When you’re a pro’s pro like Eddie Pepperell, who came into this week’s Soudal Open with three DP World Tour holes-in-one to his name, more is expected, however. On Thursday at Rinkven International G.C., the wise-cracking Brit rose to the occasion after making a mind-boggling fourth career ace.

Not only was it Pepperell’s fourth ace, but it came on the occasion of his 300th DP World Tour start. Given the context, we wouldn’t have blamed Pepperell for uncorking a little double-fists-to-the-sky action a la Bryson DeChambeau/Steve Holt. Instead, he just stood there and stared it for a minute, completely expressionless, before giving a meek fist pump to the camera, cracking a smile and shaking the hands of his playing partners. Then again, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised, because Pepperrell literally has been there before. Four times now. Perhaps he’s simply getting used to it.
