Elijah Sarratt says 'Waffle House' nickname reflects mindset
‘Waffle House’ Isn’t Just a Nickname — It’s Sarratt’s Identity
Every rookie brings something unique, and for Elijah Sarratt, even his nickname tells a story.
When asked about the origin of "Waffle House," Sarratt explained how something that started as a joke turned into an absolute, on-field mindset that now defines how he plays.
“It really started my sophomore year at JMU… my dad was – he went on social media talking about, ‘He's always open, Waffle House,’… next thing I know, hours later it’s blowing up on Twitter… it’s a cool nickname, but it's also a mindset, too. Like I said, those contested catches, I always feel like I'm open. It's just a mentality that I have.”
That “always open” approach ties directly into his on-field confidence. It’s not about separation on paper — it’s about belief when the moment arrives. In a crowded receiver room, that kind of mentality can quickly separate players. If Sarratt backs it up with consistency, the nickname might stick in Baltimore for all the right reasons.
