Emeka Egbuka Tipped as Tampa Bay's Breakout Star for 2026

The anticipation surrounding Emeka Egbuka as he enters his second NFL season continues to rise. After a promising debut year in 2025, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' wide receiver has been highlighted as a "breakout star" candidate by Zachary Pereles from CBS Sports.

Pereles notes that while Egbuka had a strong start to his rookie season, he faced challenges that affected his performance later on, including difficulty with dropped passes and hitting the "rookie wall." Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht acknowledged the hurdles Egbuka encountered, which he believes are now behind the young player. Licht is optimistic about Egbuka's prospects for the upcoming season.

Despite his struggles towards the end of last season, Egbuka's overall performance was commendable. He emerged as the Buccaneers' primary wide receiver due to injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, finishing the season with 63 receptions, 938 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. His impressive play earned him a spot as a finalist for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

With Evans no longer on the roster, Egbuka is set to become a key target for quarterback Baker Mayfield in 2026. Although the team has a solid receiving corps that includes a healthy Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, rookie Ted Hurst, and Tez Johnson, Egbuka is expected to elevate his game and prove his first-round draft potential.

Referring to Egbuka as "under-the-radar" seems somewhat inaccurate, given his status as a well-regarded prospect from Ohio State and his notable start to his career. His ascension to the top of the Buccaneers' receiving hierarchy is anticipated, and he appears poised for a breakout season that could lead him to his first Pro Bowl and help the team secure a playoff spot.
