Exeter’s Alex Kelsey Transfers to Kentucky, Aiming for SEC Success

Alex Kelsey, a standout outfielder from Exeter, has declared his transfer to the University of Kentucky after two successful seasons at St. Joseph's University. The 2025 graduate opted for the Wildcats over other contenders, including Clemson, and will bring two years of eligibility with him to Lexington.

A native of Reading, Kelsey made a significant impact during his time with the St. Joseph’s Hawks, starting in both of his seasons. In 2026, he earned recognition as one of the top athletes on the team, being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team alongside teammates Blake Primrose and Cole Fehrman. Kelsey boasted an impressive .373 batting average and a .996 OPS, helping the Hawks achieve a 36-20 record before their season concluded with a loss to Virginia Commonwealth University in the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals.

In his sophomore year, Kelsey played 56 games, missing only one, and recorded 81 hits, which included 20 extra-base hits. He also contributed 35 RBIs and stole 20 bases. Over his two years at St. Joseph's, he accumulated a .348 batting average, totaling 114 hits in 414 at-bats, along with 68 RBIs, 37 stolen bases, and six home runs. Defensively, he maintained a .960 fielding percentage with just 10 errors across more than 250 chances.

As a freshman, Kelsey was recognized on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, leading the Hawks in various categories, including runs scored, triples, walks, and on-base percentage. Transitioning to Kentucky, Kelsey will join a Wildcats team fresh off a 33-23 season, which saw them reach the NCAA Regional Final for the fourth consecutive year, narrowly losing 6-5 to West Virginia.

With his impressive speed, defensive skills, and offensive prowess, Kelsey is poised to make a significant impact in the SEC as he prepares for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. He is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
