MLB Injury Update: José Ramírez and Vinnie Pasquantino Sidelined by Hamate Fractures; Spencer Strider Out for Month

This week’s injury report highlights significant setbacks for several MLB players, including José Ramírez and Vinnie Pasquantino, both of whom have suffered hamate fractures. In addition, Spencer Strider will be sidelined for four weeks due to right elbow inflammation. Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners are set to welcome back catcher Cal Raleigh from the injured list.

José Ramírez was removed from Saturday’s matchup against the Tigers after experiencing a hand injury. Subsequent examinations revealed a fractured left hamate bone, leading to his placement on the 10-day injured list. The 33-year-old third baseman is expected to be out for at least a month. In his absence, Gabriel Arias has been called up to share third base duties with Daniel Schneemann. Ramírez has recorded a batting line of .239/.339/.418 with 10 home runs, 42 runs, 33 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases over 314 plate appearances this season.

Vinnie Pasquantino also suffered a hamate fracture during Saturday’s game against the Astros. He left the field in the fifth inning after feeling discomfort from a pop-up and was later diagnosed with the same injury. Like Ramírez, Pasquantino has been placed on the 10-day injured list, with a recovery timeframe of 4-6 weeks. This injury adds to the struggles of the 28-year-old first baseman, who has a .224/.309/.350 batting average with six home runs and 32 RBIs in 291 plate appearances. Jac Caglianone is expected to take over primary responsibilities at first base.

In another notable update, Spencer Strider experienced a significant decline in fastball velocity during his last outing, prompting his exit due to right arm soreness. Following an MRI, Strider was placed on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his elbow. He consulted with Dr. Keith Meister and will be shut down for the next four weeks, with a follow-up MRI planned. Fortunately, there is no ligament damage, and surgery is not anticipated.

Other injury notes include Christian Scott, who has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a minor hip issue, and Corey Seager, who is now on the 7-day concussion injured list after symptoms arose following a collision. Additionally, Cal Raleigh is expected to return to the lineup after completing a month-long recovery from an oblique injury.
