Fabinho Reflects on His Time in Saudi Arabia: “I’m a Better Player Now”

Fabinho shared insights into his three-year journey with Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia during a press conference on Thursday (4). The Brazilian midfielder, who joined the club in 2023 after a successful tenure at Liverpool, characterized his experience in the Middle East as overwhelmingly positive. He emphasized that this period has significantly contributed to his development as a player.

“When I went to Saudi Arabia, my status in the team changed to that of a key player, because that’s what they signed me for, and I think it helped me grow in terms of taking on that responsibility,” Fabinho explained. He noted that his role as captain has enhanced his leadership skills and communication within the team. “It was a very good experience over these three years... I believe I’m a better player today,” he added.

During his time in the Saudi Pro League, Fabinho became a prominent figure, helping his club secure both the league title and the King’s Cup in the 2024/25 season. However, he acknowledged that his move to Saudi football might have impacted his chances of being called up to the national squad. “I knew that changing clubs could distance me a little from the national team, but I always hoped to come back here,” he stated. After nearly three years without a call-up, he expressed joy at returning to the Seleção.

As Brazil prepares for the upcoming World Cup, Fabinho expressed optimism about the team’s potential. “What makes us dream big is knowing the quality of every player who is here and wearing the shirt of the five-time champions,” he remarked. He noted a strong sense of confidence within the group and among the coaching staff, underlining that they are committed to improving as they aim for their sixth world title.
