Bridget Carleton was a standout performer for Portland, contributing 20 points, including six three-pointers, as the expansion team achieved its first win in this year's Cup series after four attempts.
Emily Engstler proved crucial in the game's closing moments, sinking a free throw with just two seconds left on the clock to secure the win for Portland, which is now 7-8 overall. Megan Gustafson supported the effort with 16 points, while both Sarah Ashlee Barker and Carla Leite added 10 points each.
For the Wings, Arike Ogunbowale led the scoring with 22 points, followed by Azzi Fudd with 18 points and Aziaha James with 17. Jessica Shepard also made a notable impact, recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Wings hold a 3-2 record in Commissioner's Cup play, with two games remaining before the championship showdown scheduled for June 30.
The game saw several lead changes late in the fourth quarter, with Shepard converting a three-point play to give Dallas a brief 76-73 advantage. Fudd followed with another three-point play, pushing the Wings ahead 83-81 with just 19 seconds left. However, Portland's Leiter managed to tie the game with a layup before Engstler's decisive free throw clinched the victory.
Looking ahead, the Wings will host the Las Vegas Aces on Monday, while the Fire will face off against the Minnesota Lynx the same day.
