Former Colts S Nick Cross on facing former team this season
Former Indianapolis Colts safety Nick Cross will face his former team during the 2026 season.
Cross, a free agent this past offseason, signed with the Washington Commanders. The Colts and Commanders will meet in London in Week 4 of this season.
Cross, while appearing on the 'Up & Adams' Show recently, was asked about facing his former team.
"I mean, it'll be good," Cross said. "It's different. I feel like, going against them in practice as opposed to going this in the game. So, it'll be fun to see. You know, I was actually with Josh Downs this weekend and Anthony Gould and all of them. So, we went to the David Benavidez fight out in Vegas. So it'll be fun for sure to play against the guys who I practiced against and went to work with for four years. So, it'll definitely be a fun game."
Cross was a third-round pick by the Colts in 2022. Over the last two seasons, he stepped into a regular starting role, primarily playing at strong safety.
Cross has proven to be a sound tackler and run defender at the position. In coverage, he forced four interceptions and five pass breakups over the last two seasons, per PFF.
Without Cross, Cam Bynum will continue to lead the way for the Colts at safety, but the starting spot next to him -- Cross' old role -- is up for grabs. The Colts drafted AJ Haulcy this year and also added Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas in free agency. Hunter Wohler is returning as well.
Cross remains appreciative of his time in Indianapolis.
"I'll say I appreciate them," Cross said of Colts fans. "Fans are always supportive. They were really sad to see me go. I enjoyed my time in Indy. It's a first-class organization. Carly, the whole Irsay family, the front office, Mr. Ballard, Shane, Lou, all the coaching staff, everybody in there.
"I had fun coming to work every single day. You know, win, loss, whatever, they always made it fun. The guys they brought in were true first-class guys. Built great relationships, enjoyed being around them, I'm sure those relationships will transcend, even all this football stuff and into life after that. So, I appreciate y'all in Indy, and it was a good time."
