Former ETSU guard Jaylen Smith re-enters transfer portal

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Former ETSU guard Jaylen Smith has reopened his recruitment after previously committing to the Kent State Golden Flashes, he announced on social media.

The 5-foot-11 junior point guard averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game last season, earning Southern Conference Sixth Man of the Year honors while helping ETSU claim the regular-season title.

Smith, who began his career at North Florida, said in a post to X that he is reopening his recruitment and thanked Kent State’s coaching staff for the opportunity.

He now returns to the transfer portal in search of his next destination.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
