Former LIV Golf Champion Shares Reasons for Departure and Aspiration to Dominate PGA Tour

LIV Golf is currently facing significant challenges, as the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) plans to withdraw its financial support by the end of the 2026 season. Since its debut in June 2022, LIV Golf has attempted to rival the PGA Tour, attracting prominent players like Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson. Cam Smith also joined the ranks, followed by Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton in subsequent years. However, the league has struggled to maintain momentum, while the PGA Tour continues to thrive.

Among those who have made the switch back to the PGA Tour is Eugenio Chacarra, who previously clinched a victory in the LIV Golf series in 2022. Chacarra left the league in 2024, and recently elaborated on his decision in an interview with Today’s Golfer. He expressed that winning on LIV Golf did not significantly alter his career trajectory. “Once you win out there, as I did, your life doesn’t change that much,” he noted, explaining that the lack of opportunities to participate in major tournaments and events like the Ryder Cup diminished his motivation as a player.

The 26-year-old Spanish golfer emphasized his ambition to excel in the sport, stating, “I was the best player in college golf, and I want to be the best player in the world.” Chacarra acknowledged the journey ahead, highlighting the need for hard work and improvement in his game. He mentioned his limited experience on the DP World Tour, having played only 30 events, and expressed the importance of enhancing his mental game and wedge performance.

Chacarra is committed to refining his skills, particularly with his wedges, as he aims to gain better control over his spin and overall game. “I need to get sharper, and that’s what we’re working on,” he concluded, showcasing his determination to achieve greatness in the world of golf.
