Former Washington Star Hannes Steinbach Projected to Join Chicago Bulls in Upcoming NBA Draft

As the 2026 NBA draft approaches, a new prediction from ESPN's Jeremy Woo has placed Hannes Steinbach, a standout from the University of Washington, in a promising position. The 6-foot-10 forward, originally from Germany, is expected to be picked by the Chicago Bulls with the 15th overall selection, following an impressive college season where he averaged 18.5 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, earning spots on both the All-Big Ten Third Team and the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.

Steinbach's name is gaining traction in the latter part of the draft lottery, despite a relatively low-profile predraft workout schedule. Woo noted that Steinbach's recent measurements at the NBA Draft Combine confirmed his suitable size for playing center, even if he lacks elite shot-blocking skills. "He would represent a ready-now addition for the Bulls," Woo remarked, highlighting Steinbach's potential impact on the team.

At the combine, Steinbach measured 6'10.25" barefoot, weighed 248 pounds, and showcased an impressive wingspan of 7'2.25" along with a standing reach of 9'0". His physical growth over the past two years has included nearly a full inch in height and a 19-pound weight increase, solidifying his status as a strong candidate for the draft.

In their first offseason under new management, the Bulls have ample cap space and have expressed their willingness to explore various trade options involving this pick. As draft night approaches, the organization is expected to evaluate almost every player projected to be available around their selection, enhancing their understanding of potential prospects.

Following the trade of center Nikola Vucevic to the Boston Celtics, which left Chicago needing reinforcement in rebounding after Vucevic led the team with an average of 9 boards per game, Steinbach could be an ideal fit. His college coach, Danny Sprinkle, praised his rebounding instincts, saying, "If he gets his hands on it, he's getting it," and compared his tenacity on the court to that of Bulls legend Dennis Rodman.

The first round of the NBA draft is set for Tuesday, June 23, at 5:00 p.m. PT, and the anticipation for Steinbach's future in the league is building.
