George Kittle Aims for Timely Return Ahead of Season Opener
George Kittle is determined to make his comeback just in time for the first game of the season following his Achilles injury. Speaking on Wednesday, Kittle expressed confidence in his recovery progress, stating, "My Achilles is doing great, no setbacks in my recovery." He added, "Checking all the boxes, doing everything I'm supposed to do. My surgeon's super happy. My physical therapist in L.A., who works with him, is super happy. Niners are happy. I'm happy."
The tight end suffered a torn right Achilles during a playoff match against the Eagles on January 11, leaving him with a tight eight-month window for surgery and rehabilitation. Initially, there were concerns that he might not be ready in time for the 2026 season. However, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed the surgery in Los Angeles, reassured Kittle right after the procedure that he had "a chance" of being ready for the season opener.
Kittle shared that the prospect of returning to the field fuels his motivation, saying, "I mean, it definitely ignites something and makes you push for it. So, we're on track; we're ahead of schedule." While the long travel to Melbourne, Australia, for the first game presents an additional hurdle, Kittle views it as "just another challenge."
Last season, despite being limited to just 11 regular-season appearances due to hamstring and ankle injuries, Kittle still earned his seventh Pro Bowl selection, showcasing his resilience and talent on the field.
