Georgia Women's Track and Field Secures NCAA Championship Title Again in Oregon
The Georgia women's track and field team has successfully defended its NCAA Championship title, triumphing once more in Eugene, Oregon. Competing at Hayward Field on June 13, the Bulldogs amassed a total of 50 points to secure first place.
Meanwhile, the Georgia men's track and field team also delivered a commendable performance, finishing second with 49 points on June 12, marking their third top-four finish in program history.
A standout moment for the women's team came from Kimani Jack, who excelled in the high jump, while the 4x400 relay team, anchored by Jonathan Simms, clinched victory with a remarkable split of 42.99 seconds, defeating LSU. This time set a new record for the fastest collegiate relay leg, surpassing the previous record of 43.98 seconds held by Will Achee from Northwestern State University.
Other notable performances from the men's side included Simms and Sidi Njie achieving personal bests, earning silver and bronze, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Additionally, Riyon Rankin made an impressive leap from a 20th seed to finish fifth in the high jump.
This victory not only highlights the strength of Georgia’s track and field program but also contributes to the university's rich athletic tradition.
