Giants Complete Doubleheader Sweep Over Braves with 7-5 Victory

ATLANTA (AP) — The San Francisco Giants showcased their power with three home runs in the second inning, including a crucial two-run blast by Luis Arraez, leading them to a 7-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night. This win allowed the Giants to sweep the doubleheader after previously defeating Atlanta 7-2 in the earlier game, which was a continuation of Tuesday night's contest that had been halted by rain.

In his season debut, rookie pitcher Carson Whisenhunt (1-0) delivered a solid performance, surrendering two runs on six hits across five innings. Braves right-hander JR Ritchie (1-2) struggled, allowing five runs over five innings, with all three homers coming in the explosive second inning. Alongside Arraez, Willy Adames and Bryce Eldridge also contributed with home runs, while Arraez added a two-run single in the ninth to secure the win.

Giants reliever Matt Gage returned from the injured list but faced challenges in the ninth, giving up a two-run homer to Mauricio Dubón. Despite this, right-hander Tristan Beck managed to close out the game for his first save, overcoming a wild pitch that resulted in a run.

The Braves made adjustments, recalling right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who allowed two runs in four innings. They also announced that right-hander Spencer Strider has been moved to the 60-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. Center fielder Michael Harris II was sidelined with lower back tightness, and right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. remains on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. In a notable defensive shift in the ninth, first baseman Matt Olson transitioned to right field, marking his first outfield appearance since 2017.

Looking ahead, the Giants will send right-hander Landen Roupp (5-7, 4.24 ERA) to the mound against Braves left-hander Martín Pérez (5-3, 2.90) in the series finale on Thursday night.
