Marshfield's Gavin Simpson Dominates at Middle School Track Meet

At the Far West League middle school track meet, Gavin Simpson from Marshfield showcased his athletic prowess by securing victories in three individual events along with contributing to a winning relay team. He claimed first place in both the 100 meters with a time of 11.97 seconds and the 200 meters at 24.23 seconds, while also triumphing in the high jump, where he cleared 5 feet, 8 inches. Additionally, Simpson was part of the Marshfield team that won the 4x100 relay, finishing with a time of 47.98 seconds.

North Bend's Raleigh Collier also had an impressive performance, winning the 800 meters in 2:11.06 and the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:29.69. Tyler Camp from Azalea, representing Brookings, excelled in the hurdle events, taking home first in the 100 hurdles at 14.53 seconds and the 200 hurdles at 26.49 seconds. Other notable winners included Julien Nazareno from Reedsport in the 400 meters (55.69 seconds) and North Bend’s Michael Lu in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 5 inches.

In the girls' competition, Siuslaw's Isabella Graybill emerged as a standout, winning three events: the 100 hurdles (16.96 seconds), the 200 hurdles (31.35 seconds), and the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches). Peyton Mattecheck of North Bend secured victories in both the 100 meters (13.36 seconds) and shot put (33 feet, 5 ¾ inches), while Azalea's Leila Newman triumphed in the 800 meters (2:37.46) and 1,500 meters (5:07.63).

Siuslaw dominated the girls' team competition with a total of 130.5 points, while Marshfield placed second with 88 points. In the boys' division, North Bend captured the team title with 102.5 points, edging out Marshfield, which finished with 96 points. The event highlighted the talent in middle school athletics, showcasing both individual and team achievements across various disciplines.
