SWOCC Swim Teams Achieve Second Place Finishes at NJCAA Championships

The swimming squads from Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) excelled at this year's NJCAA championships, with both the men's and women's teams securing second place. Dominating the event was Indian River State College from Florida, a powerhouse in collegiate swimming.

In the men's competition, Indian River State amassed a remarkable 1,255 points, while SWOCC followed with 802 points, significantly ahead of third-place Iowa Western Community College, which scored 593. The women's team also faced a strong challenge, finishing with 675 points, trailing Indian River State's impressive 1,291 points, yet comfortably outpacing Iowa Western.

Highlighting SWOCC's performance, Yuta Kosaka captured the national title in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:53.84. He also secured second place in both the 200 butterfly and the 200 breaststroke. Other notable performances included Bradley McKenzie, who was runner-up in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and Victor Dryhauge, who finished second in the 100 butterfly and the 100 individual medley. Luis de Vita and Gustaf Stokholm also contributed with third-place finishes in their respective events.

On the women's side, Andy Garca Jimenez achieved second place in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, while Cami Tovar finished second in the 200 freestyle. Allison Wright also made her mark, placing third in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events, alongside Tovar, who secured third in the 500 freestyle.

In relay events, SWOCC consistently finished behind Indian River State, showcasing the talent of their teams. The men's relay squad featured Kosaka, McKenzie, Dryhauge, Stokholm, de Vita, Vasco Asparria, Kody Mathill, Juan Garca Flores, and Jack Roberts, while the women’s relays included Wright, Jimenez, Tovar, Isabella Ludvigsen, Nicole Angelova, and CC Baurer.

This championship showcased the skill and determination of the Lakers as they competed against 11 teams, further solidifying their status in collegiate swimming.
