Giants Rally in 10th to Secure 2-1 Victory Over Cubs

In a tightly contested matchup at Wrigley Field, the San Francisco Giants edged the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Sunday night, capitalizing on their limited offensive opportunities. The game, which aired on Peacock as part of "Sunday Night Baseball," showcased a strong performance from both teams' pitching staffs.

Giants' starter Trevor McDonald pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out six. In contrast, Cubs' pitcher Jameson Tallion managed just one inning, during which he surrendered two hits and one earned run while striking out two batters before exiting the game.

Following the starters, both managers, Tony Vitello for the Giants and Craig Counsell for the Cubs, turned to their bullpens. San Francisco took an early lead in the first inning when Rafael Devers walked and Luis Arraez hit a single, paving the way for Jung Hoo Lee’s single that brought Devers home. The Cubs responded in the third inning with Moises Ballesteros driving in Carson Kelly to tie the game at 1-1, but that would be the last run for Chicago.

After six scoreless innings, the game advanced to the 10th, where the Giants found their moment. Bryce Eldridge, serving as the designated runner, was replaced by pinch runner Jonah Cox. A timely single from Matt Chapman allowed Cox to cross the plate, giving San Francisco a 2-1 edge.

Keaton Winn earned the win for the Giants, improving his record to 2-1, while Dylan Smith secured his first save of the season. Cubs' Trent Thorton took the loss, falling to 2-2. With this victory, the Giants remain 12 games below .500 at 27-39, while the Cubs' record drops to 34-32. San Francisco will take a break before facing the Washington Nationals in a three-game series starting Tuesday.
