Gonzaga Set to Face Controversial Will Wade and LSU in Upcoming Showdown
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are gearing up for an exciting non-conference matchup against the LSU Tigers, led by coach Will Wade, on November 14 at Spokane's Veterans Memorial Arena. This game is shaping up to be particularly intriguing due to Wade’s controversial approach to recruiting and roster construction.
Wade, who is in his second stint with LSU, has faced scrutiny for his unorthodox recruitment methods, particularly involving older international players. His current roster features several athletes with significant professional experience, including 25-year-old guard Yam Madar, who previously played for EuroLeague’s Hapoel Tel Aviv and was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2020. Other notable players include 23-year-old RJ Luis, who has a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz and played for the G League's Maine Celtics, as well as Saliou Niang, a 22-year-old center who was drafted by the Cavaliers in 2025.
This matchup marks the first time Gonzaga has faced Wade since their 2024 NCAA Tournament meeting, where the Bulldogs emerged victorious with an 86-65 win against Wade’s McNeese State team. Wade previously coached NC State during the 2025-26 season, and as he continues to build his roster, the NCAA is expected to intervene regarding the eligibility of some players.
In addition to the LSU game, Gonzaga's non-conference schedule for the 2026-27 season is shaping up with other notable opponents, including Purdue, Michigan State, and Duke. Coach Mark Few’s squad currently has ten of its fifteen roster spots filled, with several players awaiting NCAA eligibility approval.
This season promises to be a pivotal one for Gonzaga as it navigates a challenging schedule and works to finalize its roster ahead of the competition.
