Former Iowa State standout Hakeem Butler has etched his name in UFL history by winning the Offensive Player of the Year award for the second time, a feat accomplished previously in 2024. The award was conferred by a panel comprising coaches, media representatives, and league officials after Butler's outstanding performance during the 2026 season.
During the regular season, Butler was a dominant force in the league, leading in multiple receiving categories. Over nine games, he amassed 641 receiving yards, averaging 71.2 yards per game and an impressive 22.1 yards per catch. His ability to make big plays was evident, as he recorded nine receptions of 30 yards or more and scored three touchdowns, including a remarkable 75-yard touchdown against the DC Defenders.
Despite missing one game, Butler came within just 11 yards of breaking his own franchise record of 652 receiving yards, which he set in 2024. A standout moment this season was his Week 3 performance against the Birmingham Stallions, where he tallied 146 yards and a pivotal 64-yard touchdown, earning him the title of Offensive Player of the Week.
In addition to his impressive season, Butler has now become the all-time leader in modern spring football receiving yards, finishing with a career total of 2,192 yards, surpassing the previous mark of 1,801 yards held by Jonathan Adams. His combination of size and speed has consistently posed challenges for opposing defenses throughout his three seasons with the Battlehawks.
Butler will be honored at the UFL Awards on Friday, just ahead of the United Bowl, which is scheduled for Saturday at Audi Field.
