Hillsdale Academy and Kalamazoo Hackett Claim Titles at MHSAA Division 4 Track and Field Championships

The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) hosted the Division 4 track and field state championships on Saturday, May 30, at Hudsonville Stadium. The boys' championship was secured by Hillsdale Academy with a total of 46 points, while the girls' title went to Kalamazoo Hackett, who finished with 44 points. Below are the highlights from each event at the finals.

In the 100-meter dash, Montabella's James Rodriguez took first place for the boys with a time of 10.81 seconds, followed by Eau Claire's Elijah Marlowe at 11.05 seconds and Manchester's Jayden Johnson at 11.06 seconds. The girls' event saw Alcona's Addi Beatty clock in at 12.22 seconds, with Hudson's Naika Rath and Frankfort’s Sofia Alaimo Schindler finishing shortly after.

The 200-meter results featured boys’ winner Jayden Johnson from Manchester at 22.34 seconds, while Clara Slattery of Kalamazoo Hackett led the girls with a time of 25.26 seconds. In the 400-meter race, Beal City’s Aaron Locke emerged victorious for the boys at 49.74 seconds, and Saginaw Nouvel CC’s Claire Long took the girls' title at 58.49 seconds.

Abenezer Cerone from Royal Oak Shrine dominated both the 800-meter and 1600-meter events, finishing the 800 in 1:52.94 and the 1600 in 4:14.29. The girls' 800-meter was won by Kingston's Norah Kiley at 2:17.47, while Whitmore Lake’s Kaylie Livingston finished the 1600 in 5:10.61.

In field events, Morrice's Oliver Long excelled in the shot put with a throw of 61 feet, while the discus was won by Gabe Walliczek of Climax-Scotts with a distance of 170 feet 9 inches. The pole vault saw Buckley’s Easton Harrand clear 13 feet 9 inches for the boys, and Mancelona’s Leili Frollo topped the girls' event at 11 feet.

Overall, the championships highlighted outstanding performances from numerous athletes, showcasing the depth of talent in Michigan high school track and field.
