Injured Dodgers Pitchers Reunite with Team in Arizona Amid Ongoing Recoveries
PHOENIX – A sense of camaraderie filled the air on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks. A group of pitchers currently rehabilitating at the Camelback Ranch facility visited their teammates in the clubhouse at Chase Field, allowing them a brief respite from their recovery routines. "It’s good seeing those guys," manager Dave Roberts remarked. "It’s a nice kind of reprieve or break for them while we’re in town to pop over."
The most notable of the injured is starting pitcher Gavin Stone, who is still dealing with shoulder issues stemming from a surgery that ended his promising 2024 rookie season. The Dodgers had high hopes for Stone this year after he showed impressive form during spring training, boasting an 11-5 record with a 3.53 ERA last season. Unfortunately, his recovery has been hampered by recurring setbacks following his initial Cactus League start.
Roberts expressed his disappointment over Stone's prolonged struggles, stating, “He’s one that I’m really bummed out about. I think his makeup is off the charts, good, compete. Right now, his body’s just letting him down a little bit.” The uncertainty surrounding Stone’s progression remains a concern for the team as they await his return.
Also present among the injured pitchers were Ben Casparius, who has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since the start of the season, and Bobby Miller and Landon Knack, both also recovering from injuries. Miller, who spoke with reporters on Tuesday, shared that he has faced additional challenges with a back issue alongside his shoulder trouble. However, he noted, “It’s all great right now. I haven’t had any setbacks since that. I’ve been getting stronger and stronger.”
Miller, who had a promising debut season in 2023, is open to both starting and relief roles as he continues to work on his recovery. “I’m not going to hold myself to any role with this team. I’ll take any role I can get, just to contribute,” he affirmed. The atmosphere at Camelback Ranch, where the injured players are focused on their rehabilitation, is reportedly positive, with Miller stating, “We’re grinding. It’s a tough grind, but it’s a good group of guys.”
As they navigate the path back to health, the injured pitchers' visit to their big-league teammates serves as an encouraging reminder of the support system surrounding them as they work to return to the field.
