Injury Update: Jaguars RB Chris Rodriguez Recovering from Foot Surgery

In recent media-accessible OTA sessions, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Rodriguez was noticeably absent from the practice field. On Monday, Ryan O'Halloran from the Florida Times-Union shared insights regarding Rodriguez's health status.

According to a source familiar with the team, Rodriguez sustained a left foot injury early in the offseason activities, which necessitated surgical intervention. However, O'Halloran noted that Rodriguez is "expected" to be ready in time for training camp.

As the Jaguars gear up for their mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 9-11, Rodriguez will not be taking part as he focuses on his rehabilitation. This offseason, he was the only external addition to the Jaguars' roster through free agency.

Rodriguez will compete with Bhayshul Tuten for a leading role in the team's running back lineup. Regardless of who emerges as the primary ball-carrier, both players are anticipated to play significant roles in the team's offensive strategy this upcoming season.

Last year, while with Washington, Rodriguez's contributions increased, as he recorded 112 rushing attempts with an impressive average of 4.5 yards per carry, scoring six touchdowns. He also excelled in eluding defenders, ranking eighth among running backs in average yards gained after contact and 14th in rush yards over expected per attempt, according to Next Gen Stats.

Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski praised Rodriguez's attributes, stating, "The physicality, the play style, the strength, the intelligence as a player... Those things are evident right away." The Jaguars secured Rodriguez's talents with a two-year, $10 million contract.
