Jadeja Advocates for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Inclusion in Indian Squad After Impressive IPL Season
Ajay Jadeja, the former Indian cricketer, strongly believes that 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi should be included in the national team following his stellar performance in the IPL 2026. Jadeja even discussed the matter with chief selector Ajit Agarkar during the finals of the tournament, highlighting the urgency of Sooryavanshi's selection.
Reflecting on the young talent's exceptional season, Jadeja posed a rhetorical question about what more Sooryavanshi could do to demonstrate his capability for international cricket. “How much better can he perform? I saw the chairman and asked him, ‘Mr Chairman! When will you pick Vaibhav Sooryavanshi? If not now, then when? Irrespective of his age, how could anyone possibly bat better than this?" Jadeja remarked in an interview with ANI.
Sooryavanshi's performance in the IPL has certainly caught the attention of fans and analysts alike. He amassed an impressive 776 runs in 16 matches, boasting an average of 48.50 and a remarkable strike rate of 237.30, which earned him the prestigious Orange Cap for being the tournament's top scorer. Despite the Rajasthan Royals not making it to the finals, his contributions were recognized as he was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season and also picked up the Emerging Player of the Season award, among other accolades.
One notable prize included a brand new SUV, although the young cricketer will have to wait until he turns 18 to legally drive it. Sooryavanshi's outstanding achievements have not only made headlines for his statistics, but have also positioned him as one of the most promising young cricketers in India, with many viewing him as a potential future star for the national team.
