Jaguars Secondary Impresses During Minicamp

Liam Coen has highlighted a significant enhancement in the Jacksonville Jaguars' secondary this offseason, noting its "drastic" improvement. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers echoed this sentiment, stating, "I felt that, honestly. They be around when I'm trying to get open. But it pushes us to be better in our room, so, hopefully we keep having that. Iron sharpens iron."

According to John Shipley from Jaguars on SI, the secondary has been making "several big plays" throughout the offseason, continuing this trend during Thursday's practice session as various players showcased their skills by making impactful plays on the ball. Last season, the Jaguars' secondary already demonstrated strong performance, ranking seventh in yards allowed per pass attempt and excelling at creating turnovers.

This spring, however, the unit appears to have reached a new level. Coen pointed out that the addition of Matt Araujo has been invaluable, particularly with the focus on eliminating short throws, compelling quarterbacks to either attempt longer passes or navigate tighter windows. The familiarity with defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile's system for a second consecutive offseason may also contribute to the impressive play from the secondary.

Key figures in the cornerback position this season include Montaric Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Travis Hunter, who is currently recovering from a knee injury sustained last season. The safety lineup features Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, and potential third safety Caleb Ransaw. Additionally, second-year cornerback Jabbar Muhammad is emerging as a promising talent within the squad.
