Orioles Overcome Mariners 7-5, Led by Alonso's Home Run

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles clinched a 7-5 win against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night, thanks in part to Pete Alonso's home run that highlighted a six-run third inning against pitcher Bryan Woo. Adley Rutschman added three RBIs, while Colton Cowser also contributed with a solo home run, enabling the Orioles to split the four-game series with the AL West-leading Mariners.

Seattle's offense featured three home runs from Cole Young, Luke Raley, and Dominic Canzone, all of which came off Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish. This was a surprising turn for Bradish, who had not allowed more than two homers in any of his previous 80 major league starts. He was pulled after four innings, making way for Tyler Wells (1-1), who pitched three hitless innings.

The game began with Young hitting a leadoff home run on the third pitch, marking his first career long ball. Despite Woo (5-5) starting strong by retiring the first six batters, the Orioles rallied in the third inning. Cowser's homer ignited the scoring, followed by a wild pitch that allowed a run to score, and Rutschman's two-run double, leading to Alonso's decisive blast that extended their lead to 6-1.

In the eighth inning, Grant Wolfram faced a challenge with two on and two outs but managed to retire Colt Emerson. Andrew Kittredge then closed out the game in the ninth for his first save. This victory was a vital one for the Orioles as they look to maintain momentum in the competitive AL East.
