Jake McCarthy Powers Rockies to 8-3 Victory Over Giants with Two-Run Homer

DENVER (AP) — In a standout performance, Jake McCarthy contributed significantly to the Colorado Rockies’ 8-3 triumph over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. McCarthy's offensive showcase included a two-run homer and two singles that drove in a total of four runs, helping the Rockies secure the win with a total of 14 hits.

McCarthy launched a two-run shot to center field in the fourth inning, followed by singles in the fifth and seventh frames. He also showcased his speed by stealing a base and crossing home plate three times during the game. Additionally, Kyle Karros made an impact as a pinch hitter, adding a homer in the seventh inning.

On the mound, Ryan Feltner (2-1) returned to the Rockies after a stint on the injured list due to right ulnar nerve inflammation, pitching six solid innings. He allowed just four hits while throwing 63 pitches, with 41 of those for strikes. For the Giants, Adrian Houser (2-5) struggled over 3 2/3 innings, yielding eight hits and four earned runs.

The scoring began in the first inning when Willi Castro drove in a run with a single. Later, Thompson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Hunter Goodman to score, making it 2-0. In the seventh, TJ Rumfield contributed with another RBI single. The Giants fought back in the eighth with Drew Gilbert hitting a two-run homer, and Jung Hoo Lee added a two-out triple in the ninth, eventually scoring on Matt Chapman's single.

Looking ahead, the Rockies are set to face off against the Giants again on Sunday, with Colorado's Tanner Gordon (0-0, 5.85 ERA) scheduled to pitch against San Francisco’s Robbie Ray (3-6, 4.60).
