Jaxson Smith-Njigba’s brother rips NFL for continued disrespect
The NFL Honors represent one of the sport’s biggest stages for recognizing the NFL season’s most impressive accomplishments. Not only on the field, but off it as well. Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was among the players honored. However, multiple blunders surrounding NFL Honors have since overshadowed the recognition.
Following the NFL’s latest mistake, Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s brother, professional baseball player Canaan Smith-Njigba, blasted the league on social media. Not only did the NFL embarrass his brother during the ceremony, but it also sent him the wrong trophy for his Offensive Player of the Year award.
Canaan Smith-Njigba first highlighted the NFL fining Jaxson for a goalpost dunk celebration. Only to later sell licensed photos of the moment. He then turned his attention to the string of issues tied to NFL Honors.

“The Offensive Player of the Year was turned into a comedy segment with Druski, minimizing an award earned through elite performance and hard work,” Canaan Smith-Njigba wrote. During the segment, Druski repeatedly mispronounced Jaxson Smith-Njigba’s name while announcing the award, whether intentional or not.
Canaan also revealed that the NFL never publicly acknowledged the incident — let alone apologized for it.
“NFL Honors never acknowledged the poor representation of one of the league’s top individual awards.
The “prestigious” ceremony didn’t even air the pre-recorded acceptance speech.” He said.
That still wasn’t the end of the issues for Smith-Njigba. On Monday, he posted on social media that he had received a trophy with the wrong title.

“After months to prepare and ship the award, the only offensive player selected received a Defensive Player of the Year trophy,” Canaan explained. “At some point, professionalism, respect, and attention to detail should matter.”
The entire situation has turned into one blunder after another. Even more concerning is the fact the NFL still has not addressed the Druski incident publicly. At the very least, the league should have acknowledged the mistake and apologized.
Canaan accurately criticized the NFL’s lack of professionalism, respect, and attention to detail throughout the situation. The fact that he had to take to social media to call out the league speaks volumes about how poorly everything was handled.
Although the NFL reportedly plans to replace Smith-Njigba’s trophy, the damage already appears done. At this point, the league may need to do more on a personal level to truly make things right.
