Jim Furyk reveals the Ryder Cup change that will be made because of players like Bryson DeChambeau
Jim Furyk may have somewhat of a selection headache ahead of the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
The reason why Furyk is keen to change things ahead of the Ryder Cup in Adare Manor is due to Bryson DeChambeau and his fellow LIV Golf players.
The United States have lost nine of the last 12 meetings with Europe.
So the pressure is really on Jim Furyk and his players to perform at the Ryder Cup in Ireland in 2027.
Furyk is expected to make big changes to the US Ryder Cup setup, in order to help swing the pendulum back in their favor.
However, the likes of Bryson DeChambeau could cause the U.S. captain a big problem over the course of next year or so.

Furyk made an appearance on Trey Wingo’s YouTube show on Monday.
The 56-year-old responded when asked about the complications caused by LIV golfers’ only opportunity to earn Ryder Cup qualification points coming at the majors.
“Yeah, we’ve been in this kind of, I don’t know what you call it, a predicament,” the 2003 U.S. Open champions admitted.
“Let’s call it a situation. It’s a better way to put it. A situation for years, right?
“I think that’s how we ultimately ended up with six guys that qualify and six guys that are captain’s picks.
“We do know that we need to change our qualification process.
“The way it’s done by money and how the Signature Events and the majors are so, so much greater and weighted so much more heavy.
“It’s got to change, and we’ve got to move to a point system. So that’s something that we’re taking a look at.
“I’m keeping a close eye on something that our statistical team will help us with in the future, in identifying our best six players.
“And then you want to compliment those with six captains picks.
“You know, you’re looking at the golf course, horses for courses, current form, pairings, how can we, you know, what do we have on our team now and how can we complement that and make the strongest pairings?
“And in an away match, I mean, the Ryder Cup creates a lot of pressure. So guys that can take that on, handle it, love it.
“There are 50,000 people, we’ll call it in the stadium, and 47,000 are definitely, not only cheering for the other team, they’re cheering against you. It’s the only time in golf that happens.
“It’s what makes it so amazing to play on a team. Taking guys that love that, love the away games, have some grit, have some fire.
“Those are the kind of guys you want on your team.
“We don’t know where the world of golf is going. We don’t know about the LIV players, what the avenue back is to the PGA Tour. But I think we have a lot of flexibility in the way we run it with six qualifying and six captain’s picks.
“The top six guys are obviously the six best players in the United States for that given time period, and then we get to complement those players.
“And not necessarily have the best 12. We want the best group of 12. That’s what we need. We need the best team of 12 players.“
The thing is, Furyk does get six captain’s picks, so he will always be able to select DeChambeau if he so chooses.
However, changing the qualification system so that the points are not so heavily-weighted towards major championships will only make DeChambeau’s task of qualifying for the team automatically like he did last time out even harder.
Jim Furyk ready to copy one of Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup tactics
The American captain then responded when asked how he plans to get more accustomed with Adare Manor over the course of the next 16 months.
“I’m headed to go to Adare for the first time on Saturday,“ Furyk responded.
“Tabitha and I are headed over this weekend. I arrive on Sunday.
“I will probably be there three times this year. I want to get a feel for the golf course.
“It’s been redone by Tom Fazio and is supposed to be amazing, in wonderful condition.
“They made some changes over the winter with some grass. I think it’s going to give Luke and his team a chance to possibly change the setup a little bit. You know, maybe add rough or not add rough. I think before it was a little wider.
“They’re looking for flexibility, which makes sense. But I want to see it, get a feel for it.
“Then I’ll go over again, probably a couple of times next year. So I’ll be on property four or five times at least before the Ryder Cup next year.
“And I want some of my players over there. I want them to see the golf course and feel comfortable rather than, you know, stepping foot on it and saying, ‘all right, where’s the 1st hole and where are we going?’
“We’ll get there early. In 2018, we were coming right off the Tour Championship. Tiger’s emotional win and all of a sudden we all get in a plane and fly to Europe and guys are spent.
“This year, we’re going to get in there early, get them used to the time change.
“Just like the Europeans did at Bethpage.“
