John Calipari Scouts Top Recruit Davion Thompson at FIBA U18 AmeriCup

John Calipari has traveled to Mexico to observe one of Arkansas' prime recruiting targets, Davion Thompson, who is ranked among the top 25 recruits nationally. This information was confirmed by sources to Rivals. The 6-foot-2 point guard, a four-star recruit, recently narrowed his options to four schools, including Arkansas, and is expected to announce his college choice on June 10th. His other contenders are Baylor, Michigan, and Vanderbilt.

Thompson, currently the 22nd overall player in the 2027 class and considering reclassifying, shared insights about Arkansas in a recent interview. “Just the culture they have and the reputation that Coach Cal has. He has a lot of guards that come through, and he puts them in the NBA and in the best position to chase their dreams," he stated. He added that his relationship with the coaching staff has been a significant factor, noting, “They’ve been on me since I was a sophomore or junior, so I have a good relationship with them. I like the visit when I went up there. Everything was good.”

The Bolingbrook, Illinois native showcased his skills this past season at Link Academy in Missouri and is now representing the USA Basketball U18 National Team. Thompson has had an impressive spring season on the Nike EYBL Circuit with Meanstreets, averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game, while boasting nearly a 52% shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
