José Ramírez Shines with Three Doubles as Guardians Defeat Yankees 9-4
NEW YORK (AP) — José Ramírez showcased his skills by hitting doubles in three consecutive at-bats, playing a pivotal role in the Cleveland Guardians' 9-4 triumph over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. His decisive hit, a double in the fifth inning, drove in the run that put the Guardians ahead against pitcher Cam Schlittler.
In addition to Ramírez's contributions, Kyle Manzardo made an impact with a two-run homer off Schlittler (7-3) in the fourth inning. Rookie Travis Bazzana also shone, delivering a three-run double against Camilo Doval in the eighth. Bazzana and Brayan Rocchio both added sacrifice flies, contributing to the Guardians’ offensive onslaught, which resulted in 12 hits and their highest run total since May 17.
For the Yankees, Paul Goldschmidt had a standout performance, hitting a home run and driving in all four of the team’s runs. This loss marked only the second in eight games for New York, which was without star player Aaron Judge due to a bone bruise in his upper right rib that has led to shoulder discomfort. Judge missed his first game of the season after undergoing tests on Monday that confirmed the injury and was consulting with a team physician on Tuesday.
Ramírez entered the matchup struggling with an 8-for-45 batting average but turned his fortunes around with doubles in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. His first double set the stage for Manzardo's homer, giving the Guardians a 3-2 lead.
