José Ramírez to Miss Time Due to Hamate Bone Fracture

CLEVELAND — The Guardians will be without their all-star third baseman, José Ramírez, as he has been placed on the injured list due to a fracture in his left hand. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt announced the injury following the team's 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, June 13, at Progressive Field.

Ramírez sustained the injury during the fifth inning when he popped out to Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler and subsequently left the game before the sixth inning began. Earlier in the game, he had flown out to Riley Greene in left field and had a productive third inning, hitting a double and scoring on Daniel Schneemann's two-run homer.

This marks a recurrence of a previous injury for Ramírez, who broke a hamate bone in his right hand during the 2019 season, causing him to miss a month of play. In addition to Ramírez, the Guardians faced more injury woes during the game, with outfielders Chase DeLauter and Angel Martinez also leaving the field.

DeLauter was injured after colliding with the right field fence while trying to catch a double from Gleyber Torres, leading to a right ribcage contusion. Meanwhile, Martinez suffered a left foot contusion after fouling off a pitch from Tarik Skubal. Although he initially remained in the game, he exited before the third inning after being evaluated. Fortunately, X-rays on Martinez's foot showed no fractures.

This situation adds to the challenges the Guardians face as they navigate the remainder of the season without key players in their lineup.
