Josh Hokit Faces Scrutiny Ahead of UFC Freedom 250
As the UFC Freedom 250 approaches, all eyes are on Albuquerque's Josh Hokit, who is preparing for a pivotal match against Derrick Lewis. Known for his tumultuous rise in the MMA world, Hokit’s past performances have left fans questioning which version of him will show up in the octagon.
Hokit's journey in mixed martial arts has been anything but conventional. The former Fresno State linebacker and All-American wrestler made headlines with a stunning victory over Curtis Blaydes on April 11, solidifying his place on the Freedom 250 card at the White House. However, his behavior in earlier press conferences has raised concerns about his persona both inside and outside the cage.
During a final news briefing at the Lincoln Memorial, Hokit appeared to adopt a more humble demeanor, attempting to distance himself from his previous antics that led to his ejection from a prior event. At that time, he had made inflammatory comments about fellow fighter Alex Pereira, drawing ire and ultimately leading to his removal.
Reflecting on his previous outburst, Hokit stated, “Here I am, trying to do that,” as he expressed a desire to handle media interactions with greater seriousness. Yet, despite his claims of moderation, he continued to interject during discussions and made offbeat remarks, including a peculiar analogy about Pereira and Ilia Toporia.
Weighing in at 231 pounds, Hokit is seen as a strong favorite against Lewis, who tipped the scales at the heavyweight limit of 265 pounds. With Hokit holding an undefeated record of 9-0, the upcoming match promises to be a significant moment in his career, while Lewis, a fan favorite, faces the challenge after suffering a recent defeat.
