Kang-in Lee Set to Join Atletico Madrid as PSG Exit Looms
South Korean midfielder Kang-in Lee is poised to leave Paris Saint-Germain following the World Cup, having reportedly reached a deal to join Atletico Madrid. The 25-year-old attacking player, who has seen limited action under coach Luis Enrique, recognizes that his future lies outside of PSG.
Lee's desire for more playing time has led him to target a move to Atletico Madrid, despite interest from Lyon and Monaco. His previous experiences at Valencia and Mallorca, coupled with the recruitment influence of Mateu Alemany, now at Atletico, have solidified his preference for this transition. According to Cadena SER, an agreement concerning Lee's signing has been in place for some time.
However, reaching a final agreement hinges on PSG’s willingness to negotiate. The Parisian club is looking to recoup at least $27 million for Lee, who was acquired for a slightly lower amount in 2023. Reports suggest that discussions between the two clubs are ongoing, and there is a growing likelihood that the transfer will materialize. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is keen to avoid retaining a player who wishes to leave, especially one who has remained professional despite limited opportunities.
In addition to Lee’s situation, PSG is reportedly in the market for a dependable midfielder to bolster their squad. Currently, the expected starting midfield trio consists of Vitinha, Joao Neves, and Fabian Ruiz, with Warren Zaïre-Emery also contributing in rotation.
As Kang-in Lee prepares for his move, PSG's transfer plans may also include a potential signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, particularly given the uncertainties surrounding Ruiz's future at the club.
