Kentucky Basketball Extends Offer to Erick Dampier Jr., Son of SEC Icon
In a notable development in summer recruiting, Kentucky Basketball has extended an offer to Erick Dampier Jr., the son of former Mississippi State standout Erick Dampier. This comes as Coach Mark Pope continues to build on recent successes, having secured a top-10 high school recruit in Ryan Hampton and a consensus top-three transfer portal player in Milan Momcilovic.
Dampier Sr., a dominant force in the SEC during his college career, averaged 13.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game over three seasons in Starkville. He was instrumental in leading Mississippi State to a historic SEC Tournament Championship, notably defeating Kentucky, and helped the team reach its first Final Four in 1996.
Now, his son is poised to follow in those impressive footsteps. Standing at an impressive 6-foot-10 and weighing over 230 pounds, Erick Dampier Jr. has made a name for himself as the fifth-ranked player in the class of 2028. While still developing his outside shooting, he excels at utilizing his size in the paint and shows promise in rebounding and ball handling.
“Blessed to receive an offer from Coach Pope and the University of Kentucky,” Dampier Jr. shared on social media, showcasing his excitement for the opportunity.
As the recruiting process unfolds, Dampier Jr. faces competition from several schools, including Alabama and his father’s alma mater, Mississippi State, as well as Purdue, which has a reputation for pursuing top big men. With two years until he heads to college, he remains a player to keep an eye on as the summer progresses.
