Kiefer Shines as Southland Claims Consolation Title Against Barnum

On June 4, the Southland Rebels secured the consolation championship at the Class A state tournament, overcoming Barnum with a narrow 3-2 victory at Caswell Park in North Mankato. The Rebels, seeded fourth, improved their season record to 22-3, while Barnum, also fourth-seeded, ended its impressive campaign at 23-5.

Senior standout Shannon Kiefer played a pivotal role in the win, contributing two doubles and an RBI. Meanwhile, Laney Weis, who was recognized on the all-state tournament team, delivered a strong performance on the mound, allowing only two earned runs over seven innings.

The game unfolded with Southland scoring early, securing runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Barnum managed to respond, but their efforts fell short as Southland's defense held firm.

In the pitching duel, Weis earned the win, showcasing her skills with four strikeouts and only two walks. Barnum’s Alizondra Collelo took the loss despite a commendable performance, striking out four batters throughout the game.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Southland as they continue to build momentum in the tournament.
