Kimberly and De Pere Secure Spots at State Golf Tournament

In a thrilling display at the WIAA Division 1 sectional tournament held at Butte des Morts Country Club, Kimberly and De Pere emerged as the top two teams, earning their places in the upcoming state championship. This marks Kimberly's ninth appearance at the state level in spring, and their first since 2023, while De Pere is set to compete for the tenth time in total, all during the spring season, and the second consecutive year.

Kimberly claimed first place with a team score of 307, narrowly beating De Pere, which finished with a score of 310. Notably, De Pere's freshman Grant Lawton earned the title of medalist, finishing with a score of 1-over-par 71. Kimberly showcased its depth with three golfers finishing in the top five: junior Andrew Ostermann tied for second with a 74, junior Drew Grant placed fourth with a 75, and junior Tyson West secured a tie for fifth with a score of 77.

In addition to the team accomplishments, several individual golfers also qualified for state. Senior Jonathan Huenink from Appleton North finished second overall with a score of 74, while junior Grant Parrett of West De Pere and senior Connor Ness from Bay Port advanced by tying for fifth and seventh, respectively, with scores of 77 and 78.

The state tournament is scheduled for June 8-9 at University Ridge in Madison. The sectional results reflect a competitive field, with Kimberly, De Pere, Bay Port, and other teams vying for top honors in this prestigious event.
