Kitchener Rangers Claim Memorial Cup with 6-2 Victory Over Everett Silvertips

KELOWNA, British Columbia (AP) — The Kitchener Rangers secured a decisive 6-2 victory against the Everett Silvertips on Sunday night, clinching the Memorial Cup title. The turning point came early in the third period when Jack Pridham and San O'Reilly scored power-play goals in rapid succession, just 37 seconds apart.

This marks the Rangers' third Memorial Cup championship and their fourth overall in franchise history. The team originally won their first title in 1952 as the Guelph Biltmores before relocating to Kitchener in 1963. They previously claimed championships in 1982 and 2003. Conversely, the Silvertips, having won the Western Hockey League, were aiming to become the fourth U.S. team to win the prestigious tournament.

Kitchener dominated throughout the tournament, winning all four of their games in Kelowna, including a 6-2 victory over Everett in the round-robin stage. The Silvertips reached the final after defeating the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League champion Chicoutimi 6-1 in the semifinal.

O'Reilly excelled in the final, contributing three assists for a total of four points. Other Rangers who found the net included Luke Ellinas, Dylan Edwards, Jared Woolley, and Christian Humphreys. Goalie Christian Kirsch made an impressive 30 saves throughout the match.

For the Silvertips, Matias Vanhanen and Carter Bear each scored, while 17-year-old defenseman Landon DuPont recorded two assists. Everett’s Anders Miller stopped 26 shots in goal. The game started with an exchange of goals within 28 seconds, as Ellinas scored first for Kitchener, followed by Vanhanen equalizing for Everett. Kitchener later killed off a four-minute penalty to maintain their lead.
