Lakers Secure Opening Win in Rain-Shortened Game Against Loggers

LIBBY — The Kalispell AA Lakers kicked off their season with a 9-5 victory over the Libby Loggers on Wednesday, despite the game being cut short due to rain. Hunter Fann showcased his skills by hitting a home run and a double, while Teagen Dixon contributed defensively with three steals.

Both Fann and Tait Orme had two hits each, with Fann crossing home plate three times. The Lakers utilized all 16 players on their roster and sent six pitchers to the mound throughout the seven-inning contest. Collectively, the pitching staff struck out 11 batters but also issued 11 walks, highlighting a mix of strong and shaky performances.

Bransen Holzer was a bright spot for the Loggers, recording two of their three hits, which included an RBI double in the fifth inning. After Max Schara's two-run single gave the Lakers an early 3-0 lead in the second inning, Fann extended the advantage with a solo homer in the fourth, followed by Miles Arrowsmith's RBI single in the fifth, making the score 5-1 in favor of Kalispell.

Facing a 6-2 deficit, Libby rallied in the sixth inning, scoring three runs primarily through five walks and a passed ball, narrowing the gap to just one run at 6-5. However, the Lakers responded with an RBI single from George Schwan in the seventh and benefitted from a two-run error by the Loggers in the eighth. Just as Libby was looking to answer back, rain halted the game with two outs in their half of the eighth inning.

The Lakers' season opener showcased both their offensive depth and pitching strategies, setting a promising tone for the games ahead.
